Chandigarh – Like the Censor Board, the Punjab government on Saturday announced the setting up Punjab Cultural Commission, which will decide about the future of the Punjabi song, either it is fit or not according to Punjabi culture. The Commission will have power to register FIR against anyone, who will violate the rules, set up by commission. The commission will have the power to take sue-moto of any songs. Moreover, The commission will also make demarcation of the songs. In another words, now the government will decide which songs should be sung or not. Interestingly, no officer from the CMO is aware about such Commission.There is no such cultural commission across the states in the Country. Minister Navjot Sidhu, writer and Chairman of Punjab Art Council Surjit Patar, while talking to media in the Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh, on Saturday announced about the Punjab Cultural Commission. Patar has been authorised to make a body of 7 or 11 members for such commission.According to minister, the Home Department has been attached with the commission, who will help to stop obscene and vulgar expression in the songs. According to an official information, the commission will able to take action against any person involved in public nuisance, singing, reciting, publishing and transmitting in electric from such songs and material as per various Sections of IPC 290,294, Sections 67 and 67-A if Information Technology Act and other relevant provision of law. Elaboration about the commission, the speakers said that if anybody found guilty under such act, he would be sentenced with Rs 300 penalty and three months in imprisonment.A committee will be formed soon to choose the members of the commission and identify the obscene and vulgar songs, which will submit its report in the 14 days. As told in the Press Conference, all is being done with the consent of Chief Minister. Among others, former leader of AAP and Comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi, Singer Pummy Bai were also present there.
