President of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Gobind Singh Longowal welcomed the decision of the Government of India to impose a ban on renaming Dayal Singh Majithia Evening College in Delhi. In a press statement issued from the office of the SGPC office, Longowal said that the decision of the Indian government is correct, which has made the protest of the Sikhs calm.It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Human Resources, Prakash Javadekar has written to the Union Minister, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, in a letter that the change in the name of the college has not been approved by the Government of India. This letter has been sent to Harsimrat Kaur Badal, on January 16. Longowal thanked the Union Minister, Harsimrat Kaur Badal for showing a special interest in this matter. On the other hand, various organizations of the Sikh Panth also appreciated efforts to stop the change of college name.It may be recalled that on the issue of renaming Dayal Singh Majithia College by the governing body of the college, protests had occurred done the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Shiromani Akali Dal, and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Managing Committee. Under this, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal also wrote to the Minister of Human Resource, Government of India to curb this decision.
