Chandigarh, August 7: To keep check on the government vehicles, the Punjab Government has started to record the data of vehicles, run by officers, MLAs, Ministers and Chief Minister. The Government has got prepared software ‘Vehicle Management System (VMS) in this regard. This software will keep vigil on the maintenance, repair expenditure with date, fuel limit and purchase of spare parts. If any violation is found, the software will raise alert and the bills could not be paid. Government expects this software to save Rs 25 crores, annually. Interestingly, the Government has no data about the number of vehicles, but with this system it will able to know the number, how many vehicle it has.
Finance Department (FD) has issued letters to the entire departments to send the data of vehicles with complete detail. With this letter, a separate form has been sent , in which each and every information is sought like name of the officers , who use vehicle, his fuel limit, manufacturing year of vehicle, detail about kilometres and model of vehicle. Sources told that the data has been complied at department level and will be submitted to FD in current month.The motive of this process is to stop the misuse of official vehicles and reduction in expenditure. It is also the clear massage from the FD that no vehicle bill will be paid if these are not sent through VMS software. After the registration of official vehicles, the software will able to upload bill, automatically, related to fuel, maintenance and spare parts. If oil is filled more than fixed limit in vehicle related to officers, MLAs, Ministers or Chief Minister, the software will raise alerts to senior officers. Rs 125 crore approximately are spent on the repair, maintenance and fuel. Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, while talking to this reporter, said with the new technique, the department will able to save Rs 25 crore annually as well as misuse of vehicles.
