Buana Lakhu village with a population of 7,200 souls, Buana Lakhu village in Panipat district has become a cynosure of quite a few envious eyes. The forlorn village falling on the border of district Panipat, has been in limelight these days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the gold medallist boxer Rajni of the village, in “Mann Ki Baat” programme. The village has in fact, over the years, has quietly earned a distinction and recognition as it has produced more than 150 players of state, national and international level in various games during the last few years. It is pertinent to mention that 10 players of the village have won medal at the international games.
Besides, 25 to 30 boys have been selected in the government jobs such as the BSF, police, Army and the ITBP based upon their performance in games. About 100 to 150 players of different age groups of adjoining districts including Rohtak, Sonipat , Hisar and Jind can be witnessed sweating in training sessions every day in the sports ground of the village. The village’s domination in sports is somehow linked to the majority of its people’s collective efforts inspiring youth to participate in sports more actively. The youths throughout Haryana and neighbouring states are being trained in boxing, wrestling, athletics and volleyball by professional coaches in the village.
