Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts: Andre Russel scores fastest 100 of CPL in just 42 balls with 3-4s and 11-6s. He came to bat in the 10th over of the first innings. It was a playoff match being played vs Trinbago Knight Riders. Jamaica managed to score 195/7 in given 20 overs.
A stunning start – 52/2 after the powerplay – meant that Jamaica always looked set to get where they have arrived. But it didn’t always looked like it. Gayle’s 26-ball 35 ushered a perios of lull that was sustained by Rovman Powell’s wicket. Russell walked in, was hit on the glove by a Bravo short ball and then woke up like never.
3 fours and 11 sixes in what turned out to be CPL’s fastest ton to feast on Trinbago’s bowling indiscipline. Overdose of misdirected bowling radar, yes, but you cannot take anything from Russell tonight. Shakib played the ideal foil by manoeuvring the strike optimally.
Later in the second innings, Munro’s 26 ball 38 and Amla iffy 28 ball 37 couldn’t do enough with regular wickets and plethora of rain breaks doing enough to make the target tougher.
Jamaica went on to win the match by 19 runs (DLS Method)
Brief score: Jamaica Tallawahs 195/7 ( Chris Gayle 35(26) , Andre Russel 100(44) ; Kevon Cooper 3-45, Sunil Narine 1-22 ) ; Trinbago Knight Riders 110/7 (12 overs), Hashim Amla 37, Colin Munro 38, Shakib Al Hasan 3 -23 , Andre Russel 2-27.
