Umar Gul, Pakistan fast bowler, has been included in the One-Day International squad on Tuesday (August 9) to face Ireland and England from August 18. The selectors decided to recall Gul and leave out left-arm seamer Mohammad Irfan.
Legspinner Yasir Shah has also made a return to limited-overs cricket for the first time since November 2015. He had been suspended for a doping offence and was unavailable for selection when Pakistan had toured New Zealand in January 2016. Seven out of the 16 men from that squad have been sidelined.
Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan was one of those to be left out. Seamer Hasan Ali is the only player in the squad who hasn’t played international cricket for Pakistan. The 22-year-old was a part of the Pakistan A squad that took part in a triangular series involving England Lions and Sri Lanka A recently and had picked up five wickets.
Azhar Ali has been retained as skipper for two ODIs against Ireland and the five ODIs against England. Pakistan will end their tour of United Kingdom with a T20I against England in Manchester on September 7.
Pakistan ODI squad: Azhar Ali (C), Sharjeel Khan, Sami Aslam, Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Umar Gul, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Nawaz.
