Jalandhar – Haryana government has announced a lot of incentives for the winners of medals at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) like cash prize from Rs 1.5 crore to gold medallist to Rs 75 lakh for silver medallists and Rs 50 lakh for bronze medallists and jobs, but nothing of the sort has yet been announced by the government of Punjab. If sources are to be believed, the sports persons who went to Gold Coast to participate in the CWG from Punjab had to pay from their own pockets for their return tickets. When the CWG bronze medallist Vikas Thakur reached his home city of Ludhiana, family and friends celebrated his glorious achievement. His feat had also got a mention in the tweet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, there was none from the government side to receive him at the railway station. Till now, the state government has not made any statement to honour the CWG champions with any reward. “This behaviour of the state government is not a good sign for the sportspersons,” said Parteek Singh, a local player.Pradeep Singh hailing from Jalandhar city has won silver in weightlifting, while Anjum Moudgil, resident of Chandigarh, got silver in 50m rifle shooting. Navjeet Kaur Dhillon of Amritsar got bronze in athletics and Vikas Thakur, who belongs to Ludhiana, has got bronze in weightlifting.
