While many of you may know that the U-17 FIFA World Cup will be held at six venues across the country, it will surprise you that one of the India’s football manufacturing hub, Jalandhar is buzzing with activity and has thousands of orders to complete.The U-17 FIFA World Cup is all set to kick off on October 6 in different locations and will continue till October 28. While the soccer fever has gripped the fans, thousands of orders for footballs have also been received by the Jalandhar based manufacturer. A majority of the orders have been received from other countries. The units in Jalandhar are producing around 50,000 balls a day to meet the mammoth demand from across the world.
Export councils operating in the region say the business of football manufacturing has got a boost ahead of the U-17 FIFA world cup. Football manufacturers receive order every time ahead of soccer tournaments but due to the event being held in India, the enthusiasm among the fans knows no bounds.Sanjay Sharma, a football manufacturer said that Jalandhar and Meerut are considered to be one of the finest hubs for soccer balls not only in India but in entire region. “You can get a football starting from Rs 200 to Rs 450 here. Then there are footballs of higher quality and cost” said Sharma.
Lakhs of footballs are exported to Argentina, a football-crazy country, every four years at the time of the FIFA World Cup. The sports manufacturing sector is unorganised due to the fact that it comes under the cottage industry, as a result, an exact number of footballs manufactured could not be known.Chinese and Pakistani football industry has also affected the Indian market during the past sometime. Satnam Singh another soccer ball manufacturer in Jalandhar said that a jump in soccer ball orders was received by Jalandhar industry during past some months.
