Wayne Rooney bloodied and severely injured by Bournemouth’s Francis. Wayne Rooney, England’s professional footballer and is playing for Everton club of the Premier league. On Saturday afternoon, Rooney was left with a gruesome gash during Everton’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth. During the match, when Rooney climbed for the lofted ball, he was caught by Simon Francis of Bournemouth club with a heavy elbow to above his left eye. The elbow was so heavy that blood gushed from his eye. In protest, Rooney complained to match referee Martin Atkinson.However, his complaint was of no avail as the referee failed to recognize the challenge and continued with play.Rooney continued his argument throughout the first half and was then brought off in the second half for Oumar Niasse, who bagged in mid-week. Martin Atkinson’s decision to play on after the blow Rooney received was heavily criticized. While the incident did not go down well with the fans, on the other hand the former Premier League referee Graham Poll asserted that Francis’ elbow was accidental. He claimed that if a player wanted to elbow someone, they would clench their fist.
