National-level wrestler Vishal Kumar Verma dies of electrocution. National-level wrestler Vishal Kumar Verma, aged 25, died after being electrocuted due to a short circuit. The incident took place at the Jaipal Singh Stadium, Ranchi on Tuesday. The stadium is inundated and dilapidated stadium building. It also houses the office of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association (JSWA).The 25-year-old wrestler was spotted by locals while he was lying unconscious. He was then taken to the nearby Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The Jaipal Singh Stadium is an indoor stadium which was built in 1978. Due to the regular rains, it has been flooded with rainwater since the beginning of monsoon. However, due to heavy rainfalls in the past week, the conditions got even worse.
General secretary and coach of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association, Bholanath Singh said, “Vishal had stood fourth in the last senior national wrestling championship.”
Shyamanand Mandal, officer in-charge of Kotwali police station said,”Preliminary investigation has revealed that death was due to electrocution. Vishal was using a water pump to clear out the water when the incident took place. Faulty wiring seems to be main cause for this incident.”
