Limit of Rs 70 lakh fixed for candidate for election campaigning

Ludhiana: With the model code of conduct comes into force, the Samosa piece will cost candidate for Rs 10, Rs 8 for cup of tea, Jalebis at Rs 140 per KG, Rs 8 for plastic chair. The election Commission has proposed prices of 171 items mainly used by candidates during election campaigning. The prices were proposed by a committee under the chairmanship of IAS officer following the directions of Chief Election Commissioner, Punjab and the objections were invited from the political parties. After the time period for filing objections was over, the election commission will fix the prices of 171 items in couple of days.
The election commission has fixed the prices of 171 items which includes eatables, sound system, vehicles used for election campaigning, table, chairs and other material used in campaigning. The limit of expenditure for a candidate has been fixed for Rs 70 lakh and the candidate can’t exceed this limit. Before the announcement of candidate, the expenses on campaigning will be included in the expenditure of political party. However, the limit of expenditure for political party was not fixed.
Acting tough, the election commission has decided that the funds spend on the campaigning by the supporter of candidate will be added in the account of candidate. District Electoral Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal said that many times it was found that the supporter of the candidate issue advertisements, print posters, install hoardings in support of candidate. The supporter should have authority of candidate otherwise action would be taken against supporter and expenses will be added in the account of candidate.
In the list of 171 items, the election has fixed price of Rs two thousand for Air conditioner for one day, Rs 8 for one plastic chair and chair cover will be charged extra. The rent for cooler has been fixed for Rs 500 per day and Rs 150 for fan. The loud speaker for one day will cost Rs 800 to candidate while a proper sound system will cost Rs five thousand for one day. The rent of generator set has been fixed for Rs 1500 per day, Rs 3000 for 32 seater Mini bus, Rs 1000 for car and Rs 1700 for Innova car and other SUVs.
The water tanker will cost Rs 700 for candidate, Rs 500 for coffee machine, Rs 200 for hiring a rickshaw for campaigning. In the list of eatables, one KG ‘burfi’ will cost for Rs 200 per kg, biscuits at Rs 150 per kg, bread Pakoras at Rs 10 a piece, sandwiches at Rs 15 a piece and ‘jalebis’ at Rs 140 per kg. Apart from this the rates of singers, entertainment groups, helicopter rides, CCTV cameras, balloons and other items were also fixed by Election Commission for Punjab state.
An official said that the prices were fixed by election commission state wise as prices of items were different in every state.
