Out of nine Assemble segments, six constituencies were Urban

Ludhiana: The urban voters hold the key to elect Member parliament from Industrial town of Punjab- Ludhiana. Out of total 9 Assembly Segments in Ludhiana parliamentary constituency, six constituencies were Urban and three rural. In Ludhiana, more than sixteen lakh voters were enrolled and 1032585 belonged to urban areas and 609391 to rural areas.
At present, Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu is representing Ludhiana in Lok Sabha. Before him, Manish Tewari of Congress was MP. This time, sitting MP is likely to contest elections again on Congress ticket. However, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to finalise the candidate. Senior Akali Dal leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal is top contender for Akali Dal ticket.
According to the voters list, Gill constituency in Ludhiana has highest number of voters while Ludhiana central constituency has lowest number of voters. In Gill Assembly segment, there are 249487 voters while in Ludhiana central 150423 voters will exercise their franchise.
In Urban constituencies Ludhiana east, there are 191071 voters, 161847 in Ludhiana South, 162309 in Atam Nagar, 178970 in Ludhiana West, 187965 in Ludhiana North. In rural Assembly segments, Dakha there are 182005 voters and in 177899 voters in Jagraon.
Out of Nine Assembly segments, five constituencies were represented by Congress MLAs and two each by MLAs of Lok Insaaf Party and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP MLA Advocate HS Phoolka has submitted resignation from Dakha constituency but his resignation was lying pending with Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker.
