Bathinda: Despite having laid a trap on the basis of a strong information provided by the Special Task Force of Punjab Police, Bathinda cops on Monday failed to nab nine dreaded gangsters who were spotted near Pathrala village in the district. Ironically, even after identifying five among them, the police could not detain even a single one as all of them managed to flee in front of the raiding team. And notably, they all belonged to the gang of Vicky Gounder, who is an accused various criminal cases.
Panic gripped the residents as police too admitted that they were all planned to give shape to a major crime. Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma admitted the fact with a pacifying reply: “On spotting the gangsters our police team chased them but all of them fled away.” He, however, claimed that Bathinda police arrested one Gurpreet Singh of Gurthadi along with a range Rover and one pistol loaded with six live bullets. It was in fact on whose information the police had laid a trap to nab the gangsters of whom Bhinda of Sarava Bodla, Rimpy of Machhana, Cheena Jaad and Sukha of Pathrala could be identified.
The SSP claimed that Gurpreet Singh, during interrogation, disclosed that he was facing several criminal cases and during his stay at Ropar Jail he came in contact with Vicky Gounder. Gurpreet, who was now out on bail, admitted before the police that Gounder had sent him with a proper brief to deal with the gangsters who were running extortion racket on his behalf, informed the SSP, adding that Gounder was upset as the members of his gang were not sending him the share of extorted money. In the case, police also got the report of one Sukhpal Singh Bhandari’s involvement, who had reportedly received Gurpreet at the Jail gate and had even landed his Range Rover vehicle to travel in. On being asked, SSP said: “We are on the mission to nab all accused and hope to see the success soon.”
