Ferozepur: Patients and their attendants who came to the Civil Hospital here on Friday were in for a rude shock when they found out that no specialist doctor was available. Following this, most of the patients were being referred to other hospitals. Angry over the development, people lodged a protest against the administration of the hospital. Some patients and their attendants raised slogans against the hospital administration and health department outside the emergency ward of the hospital.
According to information, there was no specialist doctor available and most of the rooms of the doctors had been locked. Among these, some specialist doctors were on some duties while others were on leave for the past two days. Doctor was available in the trauma ward only, who was referring patients to other hospitals in other cities after prescribing some medicines.
A patient told that she had come to the hospital on Thursday and the doctor on emergency duty prescribed some medicines and asked her to come on Friday. But when she came on Friday, the doctor on emergency duty referred her to another hospital, saying that she could not be given treatment here. When the correspondent visited the hospital, patients could be seen wandering from one room to another in search of doctors.
The board where the presence of the doctors is shown was showing the details of June 23. On being asked emergency medical officer Abhjit said that most of the specialist doctors were either on some duty or on leave, due to which he had no other option but to refer the patients to the medical college in Faridkot. The SMO, Pardeep Aggarwal, could not be contacted. When this correspondent asked Civil Surgeon Jai Singh, he did not hesitate to mention that it was not his business to watch which doctor was on duty or who was on leave. It was the SMO who was responsible for managing the doctors. However, he agreed that SMO was on duty and he had gone to Chandigarh to attend some meeting.
