In an attempt to improve referral system and to update facilities, the Punjab Health department has decided to procure new ambulance vehicles and advanced X-Ray machines to all civil hospitals across the state.
Apart from this, the department has also made arrangements to replace the outdated and exhausted equipment’s that have either been dumped in the store rooms or gathering dust. The medical equipment’s purchased by previous governments and are proving white elephants in absence of skilled technicians will soon be put in order. Sources disclosed that the department has sought lists of equipment’s and machinery required from various government hospitals. Letters have been issued to all Civil Surgeons to send lists of equipment, especially X-Ray machines and Ambulances urgently required in hospitals of their respective districts.
Sources in the department disclosed that the civil surgeons have been asked to the send list of equipment’s which are urgently required to provide preliminary medicare and life saving purpose.Despite funds crunch the government will not let patients face hardship any more in absence of required healthcare facilities and other infrastructure in state-run-hospitals, claimed Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra.
The Congress government is committed to fulfill all pre-poll promises made with the people, he said. “We are procuring latest and equipment’s having advanced technology so that the poor patients could get treatment at government hospitals and need not to go to private hospitals,” the minister said.“The civil surgeons have been asked to send the lists of equipment’s so that they could be procured on priority basis. Providing Ambulances and digital X-Ray machines to all hospitals will be out priority,” he claimed.
