The Jalandhar Police Commissioner today claimed to have solved a five-day-old blind murder case of a youth from Jandiala village with the arrest of two persons who allegedly committed the crime for “honour killing”.
Speaking to media persons here today, Commissioner of Police (CP) Jalandhar Praveen Kumar Sinha on June 1, Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Jandiala village, had lodged a complaint that he had recovered the blood-smeared body of his brother Daljit Singh, alias Jeeta, who had been missing since the previous night, from the first floor of shops near Robin Hospital in Jandiala. Acting on the complaint and started a probe.
Based on investigation, the police arrested Chander bhan, alias Sonu, of Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) along with Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukhi, a resident of Bhanoki village (Phagwara). He said while confessing the crime, Chander bhan revealed that he used to work in the factory of Sukhi, adding that Sukhi’s sister-in-law was having illicit relations with Jeeta. Sinha said Sukhi had barred Jeeta from meeting his sister-in-law, but when he continued the relationship, Sukhi decided to eliminate Jeeta for the sake of “honour” of the family.
The CP further said that Sukhi then prepared a plan with Chander bhan for killing Jeeta and gave Rs 1,000 to him for purchasing liquor. He said later in the day both the accused consumed the liquor together after which Chander bhan invited Jeeta for a drink in the evening and they moved to the first floor of shops. Sinha said when Jeeta lost his senses under the influence of liquor, Chander bhan attacked him with a brick several times, thereby leaving him in a pool of blood, after which Chander bhan locked the room and informed Sukhi that Jeeta had been killed. Both shoes, the footprints of which were found at the scene of the crime and the key of the lock with which the room of the crime had been locked were recovered from Sukhi.
Sukhi then took Chanderbhan to his village Bhanoki on motorcycle and next day, he gave Rs 5,000 to him and asked him to switch off his phone, delete all the contacts and move to his village. However, he said with the help of investigation, the Sadar police which was investigating the case nabbed both accused from Jandiala after which they confessed to committing the crime.
