The Kochi Metro was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on June 17 and the initiatives to keep it clean are already being taken. MalyalamSamayam.com launched an awareness campaign in order to keep the metro immaculate. They said that apart from the rules and regulations, the passengers too should do the duty on their part by not spitting inside the train and throwing the waste into the dustbins.The Kochi metro had become operational a day before and a case of littering was already found. However, the Kochi metro officials took the case seriously and also acknowledged the fact of shortage of dustbins at the station. Further, they said that they will get more dustbins placed on all platforms and impose a fine of Rupees 500 in case one is found littering. The campaign surfaced with the hashtag #KeepMetroClean.
