Ludhiana: The civic officials have been told to increase the pace of recovery of the pending dues from the property tax, water and sewerage charges from the defaulters. MC Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori has asked all the officials to issue recovery notices to the defaulters for the recovery of the pending dues so that they could achieve the set targets for this financial year.
People did not deposit property tax for at least 55,000 properties in the city. The owners of these properties had filed property tax returns in the financial year of 2013-14 but they did not pay tax in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and recovery of 2016-17 is going on. Total recovery target from the property tax for this financial year is Rs.80 crores while last year it was Rs.60 crores and officials had recovered Rs.69.44 crores.
The officials have also appealed to the public that they should pay their property tax for this financial year before September 30 and they would get 10 percent rebate in the tax amount but after that there will be no rebate so they should hurry up.The officials have been asked to issue recovery notices to these defaulters and even if they did not pay their tax then MC can even seal their properties.
Similarly the officials have been asked to increase the speed for recovery of water and sewerage dues. The officials have recovered only Rs.7.55 crores till date whereas last year during these days the recovery was Rs.11.87 crores. The Commissioner has given clear directions to deal with defaulters stringently.
Moreover, the scheme to regularise the illegal water and sewerage connections had come to end therefore now officials are going to disconnect the illegal connections as well. Thori said, “I have given clear directions to the concerned officials to speed up the recovery and strict action should be taken against the defaulters. The properties of defaulters will be sealed and illegal water and sewerage connections will be snapped if defaulters will not clear their dues.”
