Chandigarh: The protest of the doctors of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has entered in the second day on Tuesday. The resident doctors threaten to boycott emergency services of PGIMER, if the authorities refuse addressing their demands.
A day-long show of indiscipline by resident doctors of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) left thousands of patients harassed.
For the first time in the last two decades, the main gate of the institute was blocked and ambulances carrying patients were sent back.
A protest in the emergency was triggered on Sunday night, after a 28-year-old Ludhiana resident slapped a doctor after he failed to save his mother’s life. Protesting doctors moved to the main gate and blocked it for a couple of hours.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered against the Ludhiana resident and later a DDR was filed by the attendant’s family, accusing the doctor of negligence.
Strengthening of security and triage system (the criteria used to decide on the sickness levels during an emergency) at the emergency OPD are the two main demands of doctors.
