Jalandhar: Punjab Minister for Forest & Wild Life and Labour Chuni Lal Bhagat called for social and economic equality in the society to realize the dreams of the freedom fighters, who ensured freedom of the nation from the authority of the British on August 15, 1947.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion of 70th Independence Day at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Chuni Lal Bhagat said that especially Punjabis have always remained at the forefront in guarding its borders in different wars. He also made a reference of Pathankot Air Base attack and said that the Punjab Police and the security forces played a crucial role by laying down their lives for the sake of the nation.
Further, the minister said that the Punjab government took path breaking initiatives to bring development in the state by bringing different schemes and policies. The cabinet minister has honoured more than 100 employees and social workers on the occasion of Independence Day.
Among those present on this event was MLA KD Bhandari, Pargat Singh, Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishor Yadav, Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla, Mayor Sunil Jyoti and other local leaders and officials. An impressive parade was presented by the different teams of the police, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, Punjab Home Guards, NCC and the NSS teams.
