State assembly of Karnataka accused two senior jounalists of writing defamatory articles against them. The Karnataka Vidhan Sabha punished them with jail term, sentencing them to one year term in jail and Rupees 10,000 each. They were handed punishment for publishing writeups against the Karnataka MLAs including Speaker Koliwad.
Ravi Belagere, a noted journalist and also the editor of tabloid ‘Hi Bangalore’ was punished along with Anil Raju, the editor of another tabloid ‘Yelahanka Voice’.
Speaker Koliwad approved the statement with recommendation of the Housing privilege committee. The Speaker asserted that their jail term might extend if they fail to pay the fine on time.
