Chandigarh: Punjab has improved its grades in the 61st National School games by claiming an overall third position with the players bagging 109 gold, 139 silver and 140 bronze medals and registered 388 medals in the total medal tally. Punjab stood fourth in the previous 60th National School Games and this year Punjab grabbed the third position defeating Haryana.
It was disclosed by Mewa Singh Sidhu, Deputy Director (Physical Education) of the Education Department, Punjab in a press communique released here on Wednesday. The trophy was on Wednesday handed over to the Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema by the Deputy Director (Physical Education) which was awarded to Punjab during the annual meeting of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
Education Minister was informed that in the previous year, Punjab was able to get the fourth position with the total medal tally as 63 gold, 128 silver and 153 bronze medals. This year the players performed exceptionally well and managed to clinch the third position displacing Haryana. The Education Minister was beaming with happiness over this remarkable achievement in the National School Games, he extended his greeting to the players and credited the success to strenuous training regime of players, coaches and the support of school staff and sports wing.
