Patiala: The vigilance bureau (VB) arrested a junior engineer (JE) of Power department for accepting a bribe of Rs 4500 at Patran in Patiala, on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Gurwinder Singh, serving as JE with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) at Patran subdivision and resident of Laad Banjara village in Sangrur.
Complainant, Prempal Singh alias Bittu, a farmer and resident of village Shadihari, stated that the accused JE demanded bribe for the installation of power connection for his farm tube-well. He added that the accused JE demanded the bribe of Rs 5,000 that was later negotiate to Rs 4500 and was scheduled to be delivered on Friday at Patran.
Following the complaint, the vigilance bureau led a trap and caught Gurwinder red-handed accepting the bribe of Rs 4,500. A case was registered under Sections 7 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at vigilance bureau station of Patiala range.
