Strap- Vehicle crosses Toll Plaza without fee

Ludhiana: Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLAs, Mayor and other leaders spend night at Ladowal Toll Plaza in Ludhiana. The protest by Congress leaders against NHAI and contractual company continued on day 2 also. The vehicles continue to cross the toll plaza without paying any tax at Punjab’s costlier toll plaza.
On Friday, Congress workers led by Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu, Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and MLAs shut the operations at Ladowal Toll Plaza in Ludhiana. The Congress leaders were protesting against the delay in completition of National Highway from Panipat to Jalandhar crossing from Ludhiana. Sensing the situation, the toll Plaza authorities has opened the toll barriers for commuters for free.
Describing about the reason of protest, MP Bittu said that the company assigned the work of construction of Highway was supposed to complete the project in 2012. However, the flyovers, lights, rain water harvesting, service lane, green lanes were still incomplete. The company was citing several reasons for the delay in project from last seven years. Bittu added that he along with Deputy Commissioners held several meetings with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, NHAI officials and company officials but no avail and the project is still hanging fire.
MP said that he has given one month ultimatum to company to start the work of Sherpur chowk Bridge, Jodhewal and cancer Hospital Chowk Bridge but the work was not started and he was forced to shut the Toll Plaza. He informed that the company collects Rs 40 lakh daily as toll collection from Ladowal Toll Plaza but have no concern for the incomplete project. He further said that they will hold chain protest and daily MLA, Mayor, Councilors, office bearers of Congress will sit on protest and not allow the company to collect toll fee till the work will be started.
