June 16 (2000) – The District Road Safety Transport Committee meeting was held at the local Bachat Bhawan today, in which views were taken to ensure smooth traffic and road safety in the district Ludhiana.
A big decision was taken to eliminate the accidents completely from the roads, that in the next 15 days the eyes of the drivers of Punjab Roadways and other government buses will be conducted by setting up special camps. It was decided in the meeting that in the next time, the district Ludhiana would be freed from road accidents. While issuing instructions to the General Manager Office of Punjab Roadways, Additional Deputy Commissioner (i) Iqbal Singh Sandhu said that it appears that road accidents happen every day, including government vehicles, which is a serious matter.He said that it is important that the drivers of government vehicles should also be monitored from time to time. It was decided that in the next 15 days, the eyes of drivers of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, PEPSU Roadways and other government buses related to District Ludhiana would be done by putting special camps. Therefore, the duty of the senior officers of the Punjab Roadways General Manager and Health Department was imposed.
During the meeting, the Police Department was instructed that in the future, they will not send any challan without the license to the District Transport Office, if the driver does not have a driving license, then the cases will be presented directly to the Chief Judicial Magistrate so that To provide strict punishment to such automobile drivers who violate traffic rules. Apart from this, if the vehicle driver is below the age limit, then their cases will now be sent to Juvenile Court (Children’s Court of Court) so that the motivation of driving the vehicles on the roads by young people Could be put off.
The Police Traffic Department was also asked to send a detailed report on the ongoing traffic arrangements for smooth transit arrangements every month. It was decided in the meeting that a booklet will be published to educate the public about the traffic rules. Which will be distributed in schools and everywhere where vehicle operators are concerned. In addition, joint nakas will be organized by the representatives of the transport department, police and non-governmental organizations.The Directorate of the Dy. Industry Center was directed to write a letter to all the cycling companies and ensure that the refactors would be installed as per requirement on each new bike. It has also been decided to specifically block and raid the shutting down of illegal vehicles in the Focal Point area. The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana and the officers of the Improvement Trust, Ludhiana, were directed to identify the areas of the city, where road accidents are more and more, in collaboration with the police department and other relevant parties.
The relevant roads will be marked. The National Highways and Excise Department reported that no liquor contract is going on at any of the National Highways in District Ludhiana.
