A woman in Los Angeles has apparently demonstrated just how damaging selfies can be by destroying whole row of pieces of art while trying to get that perfect image. The moment captured on video at the 14th Factory exhibition space in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles shows a woman apparently bending down to try to get the perfect angle for a selfie shot down a row of the Hypercaine exhibition by Hong Kong-based artist Simon Birch and a series of international collaborators. It’s been quite a ride. From predictions of the death of democracy to the general downfall of real life interactions in the face camera of picture apps and their various filters to general weirdness around the world. And we’re not even in August yet. The latest tidbit to emerge from the chimerical news cycle that clogs our social media feeds is no less of a face palm.CCTV has been released of art installations tumbling like dominoes after the woman stumbled while posing for a photo. Three of artist Simon Birch’s sculptures were ‘permanently damaged’ due to the accident at The 14th Factory gallery. The real-time CCTV from art gallery showing the destruction will set the teeth of artists across the world on edge – but obviously it had the internet roaring with laughter. However, cynics thought the CCTV footage might be a stunt or even a piece of art itself created to get Simon Birch some publicity for his World in Disorder exhibition.
