All women BSF, IAF officers take part in joint camel expedition
In a first, an all women Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Air Force (IAF) officers were on a mission to create awareness about ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign through a joint ‘‘Camel Expedition-2017’ from BSF Gujarat frontier to Joint Check Post (JCP) Attari in Amritsar. The nine member IAF women officers contingent was led by Squadron Leader Anioushka Lomas from Air Force station Uttarlai in Barmer while the 11-member BSF group was led by its first woman combat officer Assistant Commandant Tanushree Pareek.Though the BSF had been conducting Camel Safari in parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan frontier but it is for the first time that a joint expedition is being held between the BSF and IAF women officers. The Camel Expedition was flagged off by BSF Director General KK Sharma on August 15 and it will conclude at JCP Attari on October 2. The women contingent will cover a distance of 1368 kilometers covering major BSF stations and Border Out Posts (BOP) from Gujarat to Punjab frontier. In Rajasthan frontier, the expedition will cover Raithanwala to Rachi route before heading towards Punjab frontier. While speaking to Daily Post, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) R S Kataria said that the all women camel safari will reach BSF Punjab Frontier on September 23 at BOP Nejeke. “In Punjab, the BSF and IAF women will cover the areas and towns of Abohar, Ferozepur and Amritsar sector, hence covering 316 kilometers before culminating at JCP Attari”, he said.DIG Kataria said that during the expedition, the women will reach out to the local people in the villages to create awareness about saving girl child and providing good education under this campaign. The BSF will also organizing medical camps for the local population at places from where the contingent would cross. “We have roped in BSF’s first woman officer Tanushree Pareek to lead the expedition”, he said, adding that the BSF would be organizing a grand closing ceremony at Attari on October 2. Notably, the BSF got its first ever woman officer after 51 years. BSF, the premiere force guarding the borders has started inducting women officers in the year 2013.
