ਵਾਹੁ ਖਸਮ ਤੂ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਨਾ ਹਮ ਕੀਏ ॥ ਸਾਗਰ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਰ ਵੇਲਿ ਵਰਸ ਵਰਾਹੁ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਖੜੋਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੀਣੈ ਆਪਾਹੁ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਮਾਹੁ ॥ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਲਹਹੁ ਮਜੂਰੀਆ ਮੰਗਿ ਮੰਗਿ ਖਸਮ ਦਰਾਹੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਰ ਦਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਤਉ ਦਰਿ ਊਣਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ ਉਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਤਨਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਜੁੜੰਨਿ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਜਰੁ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਬੁਢੇ ਥੀਇ ਮਰੰਨਿ ॥੨॥ ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੀਰੁ ॥ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਨ ਫੀਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੧੦॥

ਹੇ ਖਸਮ ! ਤੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਹੈਂ ! ਤੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਹੈਂ ! ਜਿਸ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਅਸਾਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ, ਤਲਾਬ, ਹਰੀਆਂ ਵੇਲਾਂ, ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੱਦਲ-(ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ)। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ (ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਭੀ ਹੈਂ) ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਘਾਲ ਕੇ, ਹੇ ਖਸਮ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ (ਬਰਕਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਥਾਜ ਹੈਂ।੧। ਜੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਦੰਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਭ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਬੁਢੇਪਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੈਰੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨। (ਹੇ ਜੀਵ !) ਤਨ ਮਨ ਸਰੀਰ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ; (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਡੂੰਘੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ (ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ) ਚੱਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ। (ਸੋ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਜੋ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।੧੦।

Shalok, First Mehl: Waaho! Waaho! You are wonderful and great, O Lord and Master; You created the creation, and made us. You made the waters, waves, oceans, pools, plants, clouds and mountains. You Yourself stand in the midst of what You Yourself created. The selfless service of the Gurmukhs is approved; in celestial peace, they live the essence of reality. They receive the wages of their labor, begging at the Door of their Lord and Master. O Nanak, the Court of the Lord is overflowing and carefree; O my True Carefree Lord, no one returns empty-handed from Your Court. ||1|| FIRST MEHL: The teeth are like brilliant, beautiful pearls, and the eyes are like sparkling jewels. Old age is their enemy, O Nanak; when they grow old, they waste away. || 2 || PAUREE: Praise the Lord, forever and ever; dedicate your body and mind to Him. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I have found the True, Profound and Unfathomable Lord. The Lord, the jewel of jewels, is permeating my mind, body and heart. The pains of birth and death are gone, and I shall never again be consigned to the cycle of reincarnation. O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the ocean of excellence. || 10 ||
