Ludhiana: The 1984-riot victims ended their hunger strike and protest after the Punjab Cabinet Minister, Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema assured them to fulfill their demands on Saturday.
Dr Cheema, on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, visited the protesting riot victims outside Mini Secretariat and offered them juice.
He said that a meeting of members of Riot Victims Welfare Society would be arranged with chief minister and their demands would be fulfilled.
Following the assurance, the four ladies sitting on hunger strike ended their protest.
On Monday, the 1984-riot victims had blocked Bharat Nagar Chowk in the protest. Later, they had started hunger strike outside Mini Secretariat.
The protestors had also threatened of self-immolation.
The welfare committee demanded flats, Rs.2 lakh compensation for the riot victims, the pending files of red card should be cleared by the administration, five percent reservation in jobs for riot victims and Rs.5 lakh compensation from the union government as paid to the riot victims of Delhi.
