Ludhiana: ‘Chak De India!’ is the message for the Hockey Olympians, veteran hockey players and city residents for the Indian Hockey team players participating in Special Olympics GB 2017 National Summer Games to be held in the Sheffield from August 7-11.
The players with the hockey background are excited over coming Olympic matches of Indian hockey players. Olympian, veteran players and other people of city congratulated Indian Hockey team for getting selected in Olympics and they feel bright chances of Indian Hockey team to win medals in these Olympics after a long time for India.
Maestro of the Hockey, Olympian, Hardeep Grewal who played in the Olympics in the eighties voiced, “This time the Indian hockey team is very good and have bright chances of winning medals. The Indian hockey players have three penalty corner specialists and nowadays teams get a lot of penalty corners and Indian Hockey team can make most out of it to win the matches. So, it is a bonus for the Indian players. Otherwise also, young Indian Hockey team is very good,” added Hardeep Grewal.
He further said that once the rhythm of winning starts in Olympics, it gives a good boost to players and confidence to win the matches.” I am very hopeful of India reaching to the semi-final or to the final level of the Special Olympics. As in these Special Olympics they have increased the quarterfinal matches, due to which winning team would get points for every match, which would be beneficial for India,” said the Olympian.
Further explaining about it, Grewal added, “Canada and Ireland teams are very weak in comparison to India, so India could win the matches against them which could give them lead in the quarterfinals and will open their ways towards the semi-finals and finals of the game.”
Veteran Hockey player, Jagroop Singh Jarkhar agreeing the Olympian said, “Three penalty corner specialist of the hockey is the Golden key with the Indian Hockey team. The players can get its benefit to win the matches. Though Ireland and Canada are weak teams but they should not take them too lightly while playing with them in quarterfinals. But India has bright chances to win medals this time in these Special Olympics. We are hopeful that Indian young hockey team would bring laurels to the country by winning medals there.”
A city resident, Harjinder Singh who used to play hockey in his college times said, “I am very hopeful from young team of India. Our best wishes are with them. I just want to say to hockey team “Chak De India. We would welcome them with great pomp and show then.”
