Patiala: Three students of Thapar University were killed in a road accident when their car over- turned on Patiala-Bhadson road late on Thursday night and another student received injuries and was admitted in the Government Rajindra Hospital here. Police on the statement of the car owner have registered a case against an unidentified car driver in this connection. Further investigation into the accident was still on.
The deceased have been identified as Aman Singh, son of Rajesh, resident of Zirakpur, Arundeep Singh alias Rana, son of Som Lal, resident of Naya Nangal in Ropar district and Mani Kant, son of Ramesh Kumar, resident of Century Enclave, Nabha Road, Patiala. The injured has been identified as Merikanan Mandal, resident of West Bengal.
Police said the accident occurred at around 12.30 last night when the people of the area heard a loud noise and they saw Maruti Swift DeZire of white colour car over- turned on the road. The car also hit the shutter of one of the shops after breaking the pots put up outside the shop.
The Tripuri Police, after being informed about the deadly accident, reached the spot and retrieved all the four from the damaged car. They were rushed to the hospital where doctors declared three of them brought dead. They all were students of Thapar University and were pursuing B Tech course. It is feared that the car was being driven at a high speed.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Tripuri Police station Devinder Parkash said the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families after conducting the post-mortem examination at the Government Rajindra Hospital here. He said the students had borrowed the car from one of their friends Kulvir Singh.
