Patiala: Forty-five pilgrims were injured on Friday morning when a PRTC bus carrying them from Lachru Kalan in Ghanour to Amritsar overturned from a over bridge near Patarsi. The bus hit the divider on the over bridge and took three turns after the driver lost control over it.
The accident took place on Rajpura-Sirhind National Highway and the bus was carrying 60 pilgrims, including women and children, under Mukhyamantri Tirath Yatra Darshan Scheme from Ghanour assembly segment. The injured were rushed to hospitals at Rajpura, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala for medical treatment.
Ghanour MLA, Bibi Harpreet Kaur Mukhmailpur reached the spot, accompained by Police high ups, Akali leaders Harpal Singh Saran and the Sarpanch of Lachru Kalan, Gurdev Singh to oversee rescue and relief operations. The ill fated bus started its journey at 5 am in the morning from Lachru Kalan when it was flagged off by the Akali leaders of the area, Bhupinder Singh Bhinda and Pritpal Singh. It met with the accident at 6.30 am.
The MLA Ghanour visited the injured in Rajpura Hospital and inquired about their condition. The Driver of the bus Lakhwinder Singh and the conductor Kuldeep Singh also received injuries and got treatment in the hospital.
The doctors attending to the injured pilgrims at Rajpura hospital described their condition as stable and said they would be discharged soon.
“It happened all of a sudden. The bus jumped over the divider and took some turns, before it settled down,” shared Salman Khan, 24, an injured passenger under treatment at Rajindra hospital in Patiala. He said there was hue and cry all over when the bus overturned.”
But the people ran for help within no time, took out the injured passengers and gave them first aid. Khan said his family planned for pilgrimage to Amritsar and see Darbar Sahib, but the accident shattered the visit.
