Ludhiana: The 4th annual cancer awareness walkathon by ‘Can fight cancer’ (NGO) undertaken in the city of Ludhiana saw more than 1000 participants walk together on roads of Ludhiana. The main highlights of event includes the theme of this year’s walkathonwas “I walk for cancer awareness”, nearly 1000 participants walked a distance of 2.9 kms in light blue t-shirts and caps bearing the logos of NGO’s and the sponsors shouting motivating slogans.
The walk started from Olympiad Village opposite the Guru Nanak Stadium and moved to Fountain Chowk, Mall Road, Bharat Nagar Chowk and finally closed at the Olympiad Village. The sky turned all pink and white when the balloons were let in the air to mark start of walk. The walk was supported and attended by more than 500 students from various schools, organizations namely KundanVidya Mandir, DAV Public School, Atam Devki Devi Jain, Drishti, Vardhman International, USPC, Adarsh Public and Aashirwad (for the special kids) and Himalayan Yoga Centre.
The event was supported by Centra Greens, Madame, Kangaro, Herbal Life, FM Gold 101 etc. The event started with rendition of the national song by Atam Devkiniketan School, play by KVM students and a quiz session by a team of Doctors.Dr Rampal Jain President CFC gave details of the various programs run by CFC society namely “Hero Ki Talash” for tobacco users, “Creativity Against Cancer” for school and college students, “Own Your Health” for General Public. The list of dignitaries who attend walkathon is Dr Sandeep Puri Principal DMCH, Jaswinder Kaursidhu Principal DAV and Sonia Verma vice Principal KVM. Under programme ‘Hero Ki Talaash’the labourers who quitted tobacco by efforts of our NGO were encouraged at stage and given mementos as Heroes.
Jagjit Sood, the Secretary of the NGO offered a note of thanks to the participants, all sponsors, media and the Sports Authority team. Finally the response that we get from general public is overwhelming and encouraging.
