Ludhiana: A six-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances in residential quarters at Shanti Nagar in Giaspura area on Saturday. It was suspected that a woman had killed her daughter as she wanted to solemnise second marriage.
The deceased has been identified as Rani (6). Her body had turned blue.
The police have sent the body to Civil Hospital for conducting postmortem and file legal proceedings accordingly. However the area residents claimed that it is the case of murder but the mother of victim claimed that her daughter died after taking some wrong medicine.
According to information, the minor girl was found dead in the residential quarters and aunt of deceased informed her father Rajesh Kumar who was out for work. On being informed, the Focal Point police reached the spot and initiated investigation in the case.
The police have sent the body to the hospital for conducting postmortem and took the mother of deceased Sunita for questioning.
Sources said that Sunita was allegedly having affair with a man living in same residential quarters. The man had asked the woman that he would not accept her daughter as she wanted to marry him.
When asked, Sunita told that her daughter fell from the stairs and collapsed. She gave medicine after which she died.
Police Station Focal Point SHO, Inspector Harjinder Singh said that initially, the proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been filed and the further proceedings would be done after the postmortem report.
