Amritsar: As many as 95 registrations of lands could be done in the tehsil on Friday as it started functioning on Friday after a fortnight. The work in the tehsil had come to a standstill two weeks ago, following a strike by the tehsil employees in protest of their demands.
According to sources, there were more than 4000 cases of registration of land waiting, however, all these remained pending owing to demonetisation of big currency notes. Sources revealed that the seller in the case insists upon getting the new notes of big currency but the buyer, on the other hand, was not in a position to procure them following restrictions by the banks to withdraw the cash from the accounts. Even, a communique from the financial commissioner(revenue) to the tehsil offices have made it clear that the government fee to be charged while making a registration of any land must be accepted in new currency notes only. “This had complicated the matter further and hence, most of the registrations were pending” said an employee of tehsil on the condition of anonymity.
