Amritsar: All is not well in the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) state of affairs in poll bound Punjab is concerned. What has been triggered by Sucha Singh Chhotepur ever since he was removed from the post of party’s state convenership seems to have now percolated to the grass roots level where workers do not mind taking on one another, as was witness here on Tuesday. Having assembled to deliberate upon important issues, the party workers flexed their muscles at the residence of AAP’s zonal in-charge Gurinder Singh Bajwa. It was free for all as they hurled chairs on one another, little bothering about the ramifications of their act.
“There was even free flow of foul language in the meeting,” said an AAP leader who was present at the meeting, requesting anonymity. According to a senior leader of the AAP, the situation took ugly turn when zonal in-charge Bajwa started speaking against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly selling tickets for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. Bajwa especially raised concern over three seats-Amritsar South, Ajnala and Attari. He condemned Kejriwal for removing Chottepur from his position in Punjab as well.
AAP volunteers led by the circle in-charge Anil Mahajan stood up from their chairs, strongly objected to Bajwa for speaking against Kejriwal and restrained him from using the foul language. But Bajwa continued his speech which irked the pro-Kejriwal volunteers, who came forward to stop Bajwa.
At the meeting, there was a huge number of Bajwa supporters who allegedly scuffled with the people led by Mahajan. “During the scuffle AAP volunteers threw chairs on each other, which left many present in the meeting bruised. Anil Mahajan too got some minor injuries on his face when his specs were broken in the clash,” said an AAP leader. It is learnt that Mahajan has lodged a complaint against Bajwa with the party leadership.
