Jagraon: The Jagraon police have arrested three more youths in connection with the incident during which a woman was allegedly stripped off cloths on last Monday late night. The accused arrested by the police have been identified as Munija, a resident of Kacha Kila locality in Jagraon, Pritpal Singh alias Channi of Kothe 8 village located on the outskirts of Jagraon and Sukhchaindeep Singh alias Cheenu of Kacha Kila area. Later on, all the accused were produced before a local court which sent them to judicial custody.
According to police, the accused including Munija, Pritpal Singh alias Channi and Sukhchaindeep Singh alias Cheenu were arrested near now defunct Sugar Mill following a tip off yesterday late evening. With the arrest of three more youths, the number of total accused youths arrested by the police in this case has reached four. The police had earlier arrested Ravi Kumar alias Golu, a resident of Mohalla Mukandpuri immediately after registering a case against him on Wednesday late evening.
According to sources, the police nabbed Munija, Pritpal Singh and Sukhchaindeep Singh on the basis of the information provided by Ravi Kumar alias Golu who was brought on production warrant by the police.
It is reminded here that some youths had allegedly stripped a woman off her pants on the night of last Monday when the woman was out for a walk along with her husband and daughter near Kamal Chowk area of Jagraon. Initially the police had registered a case against three youths under section 354-B of Indian Penal Code but later on the police added the names of five more youths in this case and the number of accused youths swelled to 8. Out of total 8, the police have arrested four accused so far while four are still absconding and the police have been searching for them.
Meanwhile, various NGOs of the area held a meeting here today. Terming the incident very unfortunate, the members of thee organizations strictly condemned the incident. They also appealed the police to take a stern and exemplary action against the culprits so that no one can dare to repeat such kind act in the future.
DSP Jagraon Rachpal Singh Dhindsa assured the members of the NGOs that the remaining accused would also be arrested very soon and they would be dealt strictly. “It is very serious matter and we too are taking it seriously. The police have been working round the clock in this case and the remaining accused would also be arrested very soon,” said the DSP.
