Mohali: The Mohali administration is ready for the upcoming assembly elections. Deputy Commissioner D S Mangat conducted a special meeting with returning officers, police officers, excise and taxation officers, income tax officers, assistant elections observers and drug inspectors to discuss preparations for the elections.
Mohali district has three constituencies, Kharar-52, SAS nagar-53 and Derabassi-112, in its geographical territory. Whereas the Mohali constituency is mainly urban area, the remaining are either semi-urban or rural. The maximum vote percentage (70.46) in the 2012 elections was in the Mohali constituency.
The elections has already created an influence on whom they should pick as a leader as it’s all there decision that with which party they have to proceed. Therefore, Mangat addressed that the public is really curious about elections and now we are also ready to face the elections and the problems which would arouse in front. Adding on, he said that various elction teams has also been appointed for avoiding any kind of conflicts during the election period.
While addressing the meeting, Mangat said the administration was fully prepared for the elections in district.
The administration had completed all arrangements for conducting a free, fair and peaceful poll.
“Election teams will be activated immediately after the model code of conduct is announced,” Mangat said.
He directed the officers to keep an eye on election expenditures of the candidates. Statistical surveillance, videography and flying squad teams would be formed for this purpose. Mohali district shared its border with Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana so the administration must be extra vigilant.
“If any person found distributing money, drugs or liquor during elections, he will not be spared,” Mangat Added.
The DC issued instructions to drug inspectors to keep an eye on medical stores and pharmaceuticals units. Among others, Additional Election Officer Amandeep Kaur, the SP (Traffic and Security) Harbir Singh Atwal were present.
