Mohali: Mohali and Kharar constituencies this time witnessed a large number of aged persons who cast. Apart from this, first timers also cast their votes in good number.
While voting turn-out in SAS Nagar constituency was 66.39 per cent, Kharar segment recorded 72.93 per cent polling. Total 726 polling stations were set up in the district to facilitate the voters, whereas 3,129 officials have performed duty with honesty and full dedication.
Long queues were not seen on polling booths in urban as well as in rural areas of Mohali and Kharar segments. Polling passed off smoothly since morning till evening. It was also witnessed that voters were eager to exercise their constitutional right to vote.Many people were of the view that Election Commission should do some arrangements that voters can cast their vote on any polling station with their Adhar card numbers during next election as some people cannot reach their basic polling stations due to their other duties.
District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner D S Mangat visited the various polling stations and reviewed the election process and also interacted with general public and enquired about any sort of difficulty faced by them for casting their votes.
Voters appreciated the arrangements made at polling booths in view of polling procedure and said they have seen it for the first time that arrangement of proper drinking water, proper sitting and a better queue management was there at polling booths. To facilitate the voters’ model polling stations were set up by district administration, wherein sufficient arrangements to facilitate the voters were ensured. The Deputy Commissioner said that for peaceful conduct of elections, requisite arrangements were ensured by district administration. Cooperation from general public was also sought to hold the polling peacefully. He thanked the polling staff and general public for their cooperation.
After successful completion of election process, polling parties have deposited the EVMs and VVPATs along with other polling materials. Polling material including EVMs and VVPATs were kept under seal in strong room which will be under strict security vigil round the clock. The strong room was sealed in the presence of representatives and candidates of polling parties. Final courting of votes will be done on 11 March.
