Fatehgarh Sahib: The stage is set for the tercentenary celebrations to commemorate legendary Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s martyrdom to be held on June 26 at the SGPC-run Mata Gujri College here. Punjab government in collaboration with the SGPC will organise a state-level ‘Shaheedi’ conference, which will be presided over by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Sources said over 8,000 chairs have been arranged for the function.
The SAD is making all efforts to make the conference successful. Senior Akali leader and former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar is coordinating the arrangements of the function. Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Sohan Singh Thandal, Tourism Secretary Anjali Bhawra, Tourism Director NPS Randhawa, DGP(law and order) Hardeep Singh Dhillon, on Thursday reviewed the arrangements for the function.
Earlier Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, Cabinet Ministers Daljeet Singh Cheema and Madan Mohan Mittal had visited the function venue to oversee all arrangements. Though function is being organised by Punjab government in collaboration with SGPC but SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar did not attend even a single meeting in recent past to review arrangements of this mega function . He said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, other cabinet ministers, SGPC members and senior leaders of SAD and BJP would participate in the function. DP
