Ludhiana: Amid the minor incidents of scuffles, the polling held peacefully under high security cover on Saturday. Few hours before the polling, two incidents of scuffle in Ludhiana West and South were reported on Friday late evening. On the day of polling, only two minor incidents of ruckus were reported.
In the sensitive areas, Ludhiana South and Atam Nagar, the polling was held peacefully under the high security cover. Apart from the cops of Ludhiana police, the paramilitary forces were deployed at polling stations and checkpoints were established in sensitive areas.
To tackle with huge turnout at polling stations, the cops were deployed in large number and the voters were allowed in polling stations after proper checking.
The situation was tensed in Jawahar Nagar Camp area in Ludhiana West after the voters accused BJP supporters for forcing them to cast vote in their favor. On being informed, the police officials reached the spot and pacified the situation.BJP candidate Kamal Chaitly and Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu also reached at spot. At Janakpuri area in Ludhiana Central constituency, Congress supporters have accused BJP leaders for distributing money to influence voters. Congress candidate Surinder Dawar also reached the spot and was allegedly manhandled by BJP supporters. Heavy Police force was deployed and the situation was brought under control.
In evening, high drama was witnessed at Kochar Market Chowk in Ludhiana West constituency after the police impounded the vehicle of Congress supporter carrying publicity material. Congress leaders opposed police inaction.
On Friday late night also, Akali Dal and Lok Insaaf Party supporters allegedly entered in clash at Daba road in Ludhiana South constituency.
