Ludhiana: Causing huge loss to the government treasury, anonymous advertisement companies are earning huge from the illegal hoardings installed at outskirts of the city as the civic body avoids action.
At Phullanwal Chowk on Pakhowal Road, around 10 big size hoardings are installed on unipoles, structures and buildings. Though all these hoardings are illegal yet the civic body has turned blind eye towards the same.
The unipoles and structures are installed in the vacant plots and buildings located in the chowk but no one claims the ownership of unipoles and structures for hoardings. However, the hoardings of different companies are changed after short interval of time.
According to the experts of advertisement fields, Rs.50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh is charged, depending on the size, from company for installing each hoarding for one month.
At Phullanwal Chowk, only around 12 hoardings are installed through which the anonymous advertisement companies use to earn about Rs.10 lakh to Rs.15 lakh per month. However, not even a single penny was deposited in the government treasury.
Apart from Pakhowal Road, the hoardings are installed on Gill Road, near Toll Plaza on Ludhiana- Jalandhar Highway and on Chandigarh Road, the area which falls under the jurisdiction of GLADA.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued strict directions for not to install hoardings on Highway but the illegal hoardings were installed overnight in the city.
Moreover, the illegal hoardings installed on roads also invite road accidents as the attention of drivers is diverted due to hoardings installed on National Highway.
The Municipal Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori has clarified that the chowk where hoardings were installed does not fall under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation.
Officials, politicians hand in glove with advertisement mafia
“Every person knows that illegal unipoles, structures are owned by an influential person and officials avoid action. It seems that officials are also having share from the earning of advertisements and the silence of opposition parties also raises several questions. Earlier, I have lodged complaint on the online portal on Deputy Chief Minister but no action was taken and if required I will knock the door of Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking action.”Kuldeep Singh Khaira, city resident said.
All illegal hoardings will be removed
“I have joined here on Friday only but all the illegal hoardings will be removed within few days. Strict action would be taken against the persons who have installed unipoles and structures and earning money from illegal advertisements.” JK Jain, Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA said.
