Ludhiana: Congress MP from Ludhiana, Ravneet Singh Bittu has slammed Punjab Government for serving substandard food in primary schools in government-run schools across the state, as pointed out in the report of CAG.
Bittu said that on one hand, the state government is patting its own back by spending crores of rupees on advertisements, but in reality it has failed to provide nutritious food to the school going children. He added that the state government has failed to provide one square meal of nutritious food to the state’s 19 lakh 71 thousand primary and upper primary students.
While stating that the state government is only busy promoting its non-existent achievements with narrow focus on upcoming assembly elections, Bittu referred to the recent CAG report which points to the substandard food served in state primary schools. Report also pointed out that this is the reason why the enrollment of many students of poor families has actually gone down by 6.62 per cent from 21 lakhs to 19 lakhs 71 thousand in last five years despite incurring expenditure to the tune of Rs. 1,180.47 crores, he added.
Bittu also questioned the government intent behind presenting the CAG report on the last day of assembly, accusing the government of malafide intentions of trying to get away from scrutiny so that the meaningful discussions do not take place on this important report which highlights the wrongdoings in the government.
