Jalandhar: Panic gripped passengers after reports of a bomb in Patna-bound Archana Express train surfaced on Tuesday morning at Jalandhar Cantt railway station. The train remained halted for over four hours at the station, but nothing was found.
The bomb scare reports assumed significance after the Tuesday morning Fidayeen attack on an Army Unit in Nagrota, Chamliyal and Samba sector leading to the death of as many as five jawans and two Army officer.
Extensive search operation was carried by the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad of Army, GRP and the local police for over four hours, after which nothing was found. Reportedly, a person called up the railway officials and informed them about a bomb on board, bringing the train services to a halt. Later, it was learnt that a signal was traced in the S-5 coach of the train, which was also thoroughly checked.
As soon as the reports spread, entire train was evacuated by the search teams while the passengers were left stranded on the railway station. The search operation started around 11 am and ended at 3 pm.
Meanwhile, following the bomb scare reports, major train services were affected on the Jalandhar route. Earlier in the day, Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla along with a battery of police officials rushed to Jalandhar Cantonment railway station. The train was checked extensively, after which it was allowed to move.
