Chandigarh: The “arrogance” of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Chief, Capt Amarinder Singh continues to befuddle the party workers, especially in Amritsar, from where he was elected as Member of Parliament, in the last general elections.
The workers and local leaders called press conferences six times in Amritsar and gave details of the chequered past of Bolaria who was a Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) in the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government. But Captain chose to ignore appeals of the party rank and file, creating major ripples.
Non-Resident-Indian (NRI) from Seattle (US) Gurminder Singh alleged that his bungalow in Batala was taken over by surrogate of Bolaria who refused to vacate it saying it was taken on rent. The complaint to police produced no results. The NRI was now pursuing the matter in a civil court.
Dalbir Singh told DP over the phone that he was roped in a false case alongwith 21 others when they sat on a dharna in Amritsar. The police under pressure of the CPS booked him and 21 others for disturbing the law and order situation in the city. Dalbir had to fight for 4 years before he and others were acquitted by the court.
Gurnam Singh, joint secretary of the PPCC, alleged that Bolaria grabbed properties of many and the party had not done anything wise to induct him in its fold. If a party ticket was allotted to him, the Congress workers would quit the party or would work for Bolaria’s defeat.
Bhupinder Bittu, Co-Chairman of Congress’ Trade Cell alleged that Bolaria had connections with drug mafia. He named the members of the mafia and was ready to repeat his allegation in the court of law. Some other Congress leaders are said to have forwarded to the party high command a few photographs, where some notorious drug smuggler was seen attending Bolaria’s family functions.
The Congress workers appealed to Capt Amarider Singh to investigate into the character and conduct of Bolaria before allotting him a ticket. He had been a true turncoat. He was earlier a member of the Congress and shifted loyalties to SAD only to return back to Congress guided by the chances of victory of the party.
Bolaria is touted to have quit SAD on the ground that a solid waste treatment plant was not being sanctioned by the SAD-BJP for Amritsar.
