The monthly National Lok Adalat for ‘Bank Matters: Section 138, NI Act’ was held at District Fatehgarh Sahib on Saturday under the supervision of Sanjiv Berry, district judge-cum-chairman District Legal Services Authority. Prashant Verma, CJM-cum-secretary District Legal Services Authority Fatehgarh Sahib said that the two benches presided over by Manjot Kaur, ADJ, Fatehgarh Sahib and Himanshu Arora, JMIC, Fatehgarh Sahib were constituted at District Courts Fatehgarh Sahib whereas one bench headed by Jasvir Singh SDJM worked at Amloh and one bench headed by Himanshi Galhotra (Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate) worked at Khamanon.
In the Lok Adalat, as many as 353 cases were taken up for settlement out of which 113 cases were amicably settled for a total settlement amount of Rs 14,78,60,417. Prashant Verma said that according to the schedule released by National Legal Services Authority, the next Lok Adalat will be organised on September 10 with regards to Criminal Compoundable Matters etc. The benefits of Lok Adalat are that the court fee paid by the litigant is refundable and the decision passed by the Lok Adalat is final and binding upon the parties.
