Ludhiana : In a major crackdown the Shimlapuri police claimed to have busted a child trafficking gang with the arrest of two midwives and their accomplice on Tuesday.
The police claimed that the accused has sold a child to chandigarh couple for Rs 1.50 lakh.The child is presently undergoing treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh. The accused were identified as Ajit Singh of Shimlapuri, Sharanjit Kaur of Shaheed Bhagat Nagar dhadran road and Shakuntala Rani of Basant Nagar in Daba area. Giving information SHO at police station Shimlapuri Sub Inspector Sanjeev Kapoor said that they accused have purchased the baby from a woman resident of Dhandran road and sold it to Chandigarh based couple. The mother of victim is a laborer and was in need of money.
Kapoor further added that the accused have confessed their crime and now they have launched manhunt for the arrest of couple who had purchased the baby. He added that both arrested women were ‘unauthorized’ midwives and were not registered with state health department.
The police is also scanning the track record of the accused.
Meanwhile a case has bee registered against the accused under section 370 (human trafficking) of IPC has been registered.
