Ludhiana:Finally, to end the wrong parking menace in the city, the Ludhiana police are all set to start tow away drive in the area of Police Commissionerate. Earlier, also the tow away drive has solved the problem of traffic to some extent but the drive was suspended after the alleged embezzlement of funds by the contractor. Around one year back, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had given the green signal to start the tow away drive.
According to the official spokesperson of Ludhiana police, the proposed system will be first of its kind in the entire country and digitised end to end. It will have one centralised control room connected with police helpline No. 100 and traffic helpline No. 1073 with 3 additional sub control room points.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dhruman Nimbale informed that the tow away vehicles will be fitted with CCTV cameras, with the live coverage to control room. The staff will be equipped with tabs to ensure only erring vehicles have been removed.
In this new system, geo tagging will be introduced for the first time and the cops will be equipped with body cameras. All the vehicles will be fitted with GPS system and all the control rooms will be under the coverage of CCTV system linked to centralised control room.
DCP further said that any citizen can ring to police helpline numbers 100 and 1073 to know about his towed vehicle and will be informed where the vehicles has been impounded, name of officer, contact details and fine to be paid. As soon as the vehicle is towed the traffic incharge of the zone, control rooms, senior officials of traffic will be informed systematically. All the designated officers can get the tabular data in their mobile phones itself about the performance of towing vehicles. Since all the data will be geo tagged, it could be seen on a map for knowing the trouble area and working areas of traffic, he added.
