Ludhiana: The concept of the arranged marriages has changed as now from past few years, the families in the city are getting medical tests done of the boys and girls before fixing their marriage in order to avoid any marital disputes due to the undeclared health problems by anyone, which in the older times used to come out later in life, risking the life of partners also. The main reason behind getting the medical tests done before marriages is to know HIV status and any other such serious diseases, reveals investigation conducted by Daily Post.
Earlier, there were very few cases of any blood test check-ups for the matrimonial purposes as only the most educated class used to get it done, but now the trend is catching up fast among all sections. The awareness has arrived in this regard through the social media and other sources of information with a view to start the relationship of life in a healthy manner with a healthy partner. Even doctors in their social lectures advice to have thorough check up of their partners should get done before tying up knot for marriage, mainly in arranged marriage as many people do not disclose medical problems.
Not only boy’s family, these days even girl’s family have started asking for a medical tests before finalising for the marriage. Infact, medical fraternity feels that like registration of marriage, before marriage with age restrictions, blood test should be made compulsory for the couples before marriage so that backward families should not have any problem in getting their children go through medical test for matrimonial purpose.
However, in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, more boys and girls are choosing to go together to clinic and get the test done before marriage. Some experts advise on making Thalassemia test mandatory also before marriage too, for couples in high-incidence states, on lines of Goa Government’s plan for compulsory pre-matrimony HIV screening. Undoubtedly, modernisation has spread its wings thoroughly but now it is the time to get modern minds as well. The people are nowadays more inclined for such tests to be on safer side.
ludhiana: Dr Aarti Tuli, a Gynecologist at CMCH, Ludhiana said, “Both the partners getting the blood test are absolutely must. If any family feels offended as still it goes against traditions in India, help by telling them that you are convinced about getting it done yourself too. But person going through an arranged marriage would have courage to insist on such test. Isn’t it better to be safe than sorry for marrying person who can risk your own life also?” She further said that boy’s family usually asks for tests by which they should get to know that there would not be any problem in the pregnancy later to girl. “There are cases where, out of hesitation, marriages have taken place without such insistence, based solely on goodwill of the family. The boys and girls have been discovered to be HIV-positive later who finishes life of partner also,” she added.DP
