Ludhiana: City railway station is lacking several facilities, resulting to which passengers have to suffer a lot. The authorities concerned are failing to do anything in this regard despite the fact that Ludhiana railway station is one of the biggest junctions across Northern India. During a visit to the railway station, Daily Post team observed that the tracks and washrooms were emanating foul smell. Besides, there are no proper dustbins installed there. There also lacks the facility of cold drinking water at platforms.
The passengers demanded that the authorities must provide proper cold water facility for them at the platforms. They said that all of them could not afford to buy chilled water bottles. In absence of cold water facility, the passengers were constrained to drink hot water. It was also observed that screens that provide information about coaches are not functioning for more than six months, resulting to which the passengers are to face a lot of problems.
In absence of this facility, the passengers get confused on the issue. Enquiries reveal that the local railway authorities have written to higher authorities in this regard but the situation is still unchanged. Even of the two PNR (Passenger Name Record) Machines one is non-functional since long. This facility was introduced at the railway station four years ago, for the convenience of the passengers, to check the status of their seats themselves.
The passengers rued that what was the fun of introducing new technology if it was not to function properly. They demanded that the erratic PNR machine should be got repaired at the earliest possible time. Bhagh Singh, who travels to Jalandhar from Ludhiana Station rued, “PNR Status machine installed at the city railway station is hardly useful, as most of the time, it remains non-functional. There is hardly any machinery at Ludhiana Railway Station, which is working properly. Moreover, when it stopped functioning, no one ever take pains to make it function for welfare of public again.”

On being contact, the Station Superintendent, at the Railway Station, Ludhiana, Ashok Salaria said they had written about the problems and the discrepancies prevailing at the railway station to the higher authorities.
